Long term effects of air pollution in Europe.

چکیده
The study population was enrolled in the 1974 survey aimed at investigating the effects of air pollution on chronic respiratory diseases (PAARC). During a three years period (1974–76) daily measurements of sulphur dioxide, total suspended particles, black smoke, nitrogen dioxide, and nitric oxide were performed in 24 French urban areas. The selected population was at the time aged between 25 and 59 years. The mobility of the population during the follow-up period (19742000) was assessed by searching the subjects on national phone files in 2000, using name and address in 1974. Their vital status and eventual causes of death were obtained through specialised departments of National Institute of Health and Medical Research and a computerised search through a national register.

Long-term spatial and temporal variability of ambient carbon monoxide in Urmia, Iran
One of the pillars of epidemiologic research on the long-term health effects of air pollution is to estimate the chronic exposures over space and time. In this study, we aimed to measure the intra-urban ambient carbon monoxide (CO) concentrations within Urmia city in Iran, and to build a model within the geographic information system (GIS) to estimate the annual and seasonal means anywhere with...

Introduction: One of the main challenges in the field of health economics is detecting the factors affecting on health costs. One of the these factors is air pollution, which has been ignored in most of empirical studies; while air pollution is one of the environmental problems which in recent years has become a serious threat to human health. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate th...
متن کاملHealth effects of air pollution in southern Europe: are there interacting factors?
Recent results suggest that adverse health effects of air pollution exist at levels of pollutants around or even below air quality standards set by national and international institutions. Furthermore, there are indications that air pollution effects on health may be partly determined by specific mixtures of air pollutants and may be altered by other environmental, behavioral, and social patter...
متن کاملAmbient air pollution and health.
The adverse health effects of air pollution became widely acknowledged after severe pollution episodes occurred in Europe and North America before the 1960s. In these areas, pollutant levels have decreased. During the last 15 years, however, consistent results, mainly from epidemiological studies, have provided evidence that current air pollutant levels have been associated with adverse long- a...
متن کاملEffects of short- and long-term exposures to ambient air pollution on COPD.
The London fog episode in 1952 was a sentinel event that indicated that short-term exposure to ambient air pollution could adversely influence the health of persons with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). A review of autopsy records indicated a doubling of cases with COPD as a major finding compared with other periods [1]. The association between greater levels of ambient air polluti...
متن کاملPredicting air pollution in Tehran: Genetic algorithm and back propagation neural network
Suspended particles have deleterious effects on human health and one of the reasons why Tehran is effected is its geographically location of air pollution. One of the most important ways to reduce air pollution is to predict the concentration of pollutants. This paper proposed a hybrid method to predict the air pollution in Tehran based on particulate matter less than 10 microns (PM10), and the...
